A few days back the President with a few others of the 80-90 Group met me at home and said they were to have “The Dinner Dance “ on Saturday the third of November 2018 and invited me as the Chief Guest. Though I explained to them that I had been the Chief Guest earlier and to think of someone else to be fair by me, “NO” was their answer and said this decision was taken much earlier by the Ex.Co and I had no other option but accept the invitation. Further they said that the usual form the AGM followed by “ Diner Dance “ has been changed and the AGM would be held some time later.

After their departure I was thinking why the third of November, for me it is a very significant day in my life. I never even whispered a word about it to them. Of course the “Cat is out of the bag” and not a secret anymore.

Going down the memory lane a few old boys just out of school led by Rehen met me in my official residence in Colombo and came up with a suggestion to form a group and call it Richmond 80-90 Group. At the beginning their were rumours going around that we were to form a group parallel to the Galle OBA and in future this group could be a threat to the Gallle OBA Before the opposition grew up I contacted the then Principal and said this group will not be a challenge to anybody but will be an asset to the school. As days passed by those who opposed realized the group was a form to help the development of the school. I’m not going to list all your projects that you have undertaken and completed but there is just one that I would like to highlight. The very first “Guru Upahara Ullela” was organized by your group. May I mention here out of all the schools we were the first to organize such an event . The latest project you have undertaken is the restoration of the College Bodhiya.

Having said all this I wish your group success in all your endeavors. B. Suriarachchi
